Obama Benefiting from Growing Optimism

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News Poll finds that Americans are growing more optimistic about the economy and the overall direction of the economy.

Some of the poll's key results:

Gingrich Is Only A Reagan Fan Now That It's Convenient

Gingrich can praise Ronald Reagan all he wants today, but he was not nearly as complimentary while the Gipper was with us. Some of the things Gingrich said about Reagan back in the 80's and 90's would probably end a Republican's career if uttered in 2012.

If You Think Romney Has Done Nothing Wrong, You're Missing The Point.

Mitt Romney has done nothing wrong. It's not his fault our tax system favors the ultra wealthy. We shouldn't blame him because only 15% of his income goes to the IRS. Likewise, it's not Romney's fault he has millions tucked away in the Cayman Islands. Mitt has done what any red-blooded American capitalist would have done under similar circumstances.

Gingrich, Perry, and now Santorum: Socialists

Newt Gingrich's 28 minute attack on Bain Capital has helped draw attention to the nastier parts of of Romney's career as a corporate raider, but it has drawn Newt the ire of Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the conservative establishment.

Huntsman's Turn to Get Noticed

Today is the New Hampshire primary. By all estimations, Romney will run away with a victory, but I'm hoping most of the discussion later tonight will be about the second place finisher-- Jon Huntsman. He's the only candidate who hasn't yet gotten a shot with Republican voters, and he's still the only candidate to offer a real alternative to Romney.

If this Continues, Obama will not be Beatable

As the Wall Street Journal reports today, this morning's jobs report is the real deal:

Imagine if Obama Gave that Teddy Roosevelt Speech Instead

The President has been criticized from many sides for his Osawatomie speech. Some have said it offered no specifics, and therefore served little purpose. Others say it was just a call for more failed liberal tax and spend policies. But no matter how hard his critics try, the policies the President hinted at are mild by historical standards.

If Tax Cuts Pay for Themselves, Why Worry?

Now that Republican leaders agree that we shouldn't raise payroll taxes at the end of the month, everyone's now worried about how we're going to pay for them. Democrats have proposed a surtax on those earning over a million dollars a year. Reported Republican plans include adding three more years to the current 2-year federal pay freeze.

Billionaires' Surtax Would Affect Just 1% of Small Businesses

As it now stands, payroll taxes are set to go up at the end of the year. This impending hike would cost the typical American family almost $1000 next year, and would certainly impede the economy's path to recovery.

Shocking: Republicans Used to Care About the Debt

When members of our party advocate for more tax cuts for the rich, you often hear them bring up the Kennedy tax cuts of the early 60's. If a guy like Kennedy understood the wisdom of cutting taxes back then, they argue, everyone today should be on board. Tax cuts spur the economy and raise revenues, or so the theory goes.
