Mitt Asks Scott to Downplay Job Gains

By John Martin - Posted on 21 June 2012

It turns out that a few Republican Governors have a small dilemma on their hands. They want to brag about their improving economies, but they're facing pressure to keep things quiet.

Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign asked Florida Governor Rick Scott to tone down his statements heralding improvements in the state’s economy because they clash with the presumptive Republican nominee’s message that the nation is suffering under President Barack Obama, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Scott, a Republican, was asked to say that the state’s jobless rate could improve faster under a Romney presidency, according to the people, who asked not to be named.

What’s unfolding in Florida highlights a dilemma for the Romney campaign: how to allow Republican governors to take credit for economic improvements in their states while faulting Obama’s stewardship of the national economy. Republican governors in Ohio, Virginia, Michigan and Wisconsin also have highlighted improving economies.

The Florida Republican party has even put our TV ads trumping the governor's, and the state's, successess, causing some to think they've just seen an Obama ad.

This scenario is also playing out in a number of battleground states, including Virginia, Wisconsin and Michigan, where unemployment is down almost 6 percent since August 2009.

It's a Catch 22 for both Romney and Scott. Romney has to have Florida's 29 EVs to be elected, and so he can't say much about the economy coming back. Scott has to trumpet economic gains in the Sunshine State to have a chance at a second term. Which one wins out here, Washington or Tallahassee?

If I were advising these clowns, I'd say you let Romney win this and take a crap all over Florida for now. Scott has plenty of time before his next election, and there's a good chance the Florida economy will continue to get better. If I'm Scott, I say to Romney, "sure, do what you want. But if you get into office, you owe me and my state big time!"

Although, maybe Scott doesn't think Romney has any shot.

John I have to admit, I am so unbelievably proud of President Obama. Nowhere in our recent or modern history (except for FDR)  where we’ve seen the  WHOLE Republican Congressmen, Governors, States attorneys, state and local politicians  fighting against this President . I mean there are  multimillionaires and Billionaires, and Major corporations chiming in on this AWESOME PRESIDENT!!-- If President Obama was SO weak and ineffective, you would not see this massive movement against him!!- He would be a blip to disregard!!--- BUT he is truly the MOST COMMANDING man on the planet that he has The WHOLE UNITED STATES neoconservative movement RILED up!! ( I know it sounds delusional but it seems true) Lol-----  no matter how ( I wish for President Obama to WIN!) this election turns out, I feel good that it took the WHOLE MAMMOTH of heathens to beat him; he just didn’t go down at the push of the pencil!!--- President Obama is LITERALLY giving them a RUN for their money!! lol—he is no lightweight!!  The distortion that he is destroying America is phooey!! How is it that his approval rating in Europe is about 80%??!!!! -----The rest of the world knows better; it is just the sickness of our past history of hatred and greed in America that is raising its ugly head at his time!!

Do you know that if President Obama was so bad, the rest of the world would be making a mockery of him?? They are holding their breath that he gets another term!!  If President Obama gets a second term, you can bet your bottom bucks the rest of the world will celebrate it!!!---- I just had to spark up President Obama‘s image because we’ve been hearing negative news, crap and garbage about him being weak, a poor leader and ineffective!! I know he is not perfect; he has many flaws and has made lots of mistakes just like ALL the rest of the presidents but he has shown bravery, Boldness, Honesty, integrity, gut and grit!!

Sorry Guys here are my long laundry list of  tells tales and the far right hypocrisy!! lol-- sorry it's sooo long lol:

Well well well--- Mr. Ryan Paul is being vetted for the Veep position!! Really?? WOW?? The star power Marco Rubio isn’t at this lavish retreat that Romney is having!! Lol--- He is the classic type who will vote against his own interest. Here he is touting for a presidential nominee who wouldn’t even consider him for the VEEP position along with the fact that they are ALLERGIC to immigration, diversity and the middle class lol hahaha--- I laugh at the GOPers lol  ----here the far right opposes Don’t ask Don’t tell, and against same sex marriages; However, the GOPers are fine with the far right denying them their full rights and humanity but they're okay with the small government principle lol---- That’s just like telling me it’s okay to deny me my right as a woman and human being  but oooh I am fine with “the powers to be” principle of fiscal conservative lol ( btw there is nothing wrong with being fiscal conservative  HEY! This Democrat Voted for BUSH in 2000 lol)  geesh the power of persuasion!! Lol ---

I believe in voting for someone who can maintain the core framework of the constitution but recognize the changing times, growth, transformation and evolution of societies! If a person has a rigid ideology of the constitution, then they are not able to adapt with the changing times and the advancement of our society. Therefore, America would be unable to compete with the rest of the global economies. Our societies are expanding around the world; we cannot remain an isolationist and attempt to suppress other nations thru intimidation. Other nations are building alliances and collaborations in the globalized world; as a result, it would benefit America to stay engaged in the international community by being flexible and relaxing some of the ways we structure our economy.

What a hoot when I hear the naysayers accuse President Obama of being divisive on race, class and etc, lol really? Was America truly unified before Obama came along?? NOPE!! So the notion that he created this division is a myth! Lol----- the division was lying underneath the surface and was waiting for an opportune time to raise its ugly head. Somehow the misguided warps are under the delusion that America was relishing in paradise and singing kumbaya before President Obama came along lol hahaha (the code word is please don’t shine the light on the reality of ethnocentrism; don’t disclose the social elites who care nothing but for themselves and their own pleasure). Oh Yeah! ---Here is the BIG one lol--- “He is the WORST President ever! Lol” --- REALLY?!  Okay let me wrap my head around this one for a minute! Lol--- the previous administration was invaded by Al-Qaida which killed over 3000 Americans and ripped thru our major economic MECCA the World trade center and the white house!! Then we went into two wars based on lies which killed over 4000 serviceman and women; injured and wounded Tens of thousands of them (physically and mentally).

Tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghanistan’s civilians were killed!!!  Because of the wars, the debt HIT into the Billions!! Bush began his Presidency in 2001 with a $128.2 billion surplus left over from the Clinton Administration. By 2004, with his tax cuts and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Bush achieved a budget deficit of $412.7 billion.  OH BTW do you recall when the Bush administration LOST 6.6 BILLIONS dollars in cash wrap in bricks driving thru Kuwait; did you hear me?? YES 6.6 Billion dollars in cash vanished!!!!! Here is the article related to that !!   ----

http://www.pensitoreview.com/2011/06/13/6-6-bil-in-cash-was-lost-or-stolen-by-bush-officials-contractors-or-their-counterparts-in-iraq/

Do you know what would happen if president Obama lost 6.6 billion dollars in cash??? Whoa!!  I don’t even want to think about it!! Lol ---

Here are some of the Bush scandals and corruption below:  lol

*The scandal during the Bush administration firing of 8 US Attorneys and then finally Alberto Gonzales (ATTORNEY GENERAL)  was ousted!!----   okay here is more --- Bush authorized warrantless NSA wiretapping in October 2001--- Black prisons and extraordinary rendition to facilitate interrogation by torture ( Interrogations)--- Tom Delay, creator of the K Street Project, squeezing lobbyists to finance Republicans only, indicted for conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws (money laundering) in Texas, also connections to the Abramoff scandal. Major figure in Washington culture of corruption.

*Mark Foley, chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, resigned over the House page scandal: sending sexually explicit messages to pages.

*Tax cuts for the wealthiest, corporations and on capital gains; retention of the AMT.

  • HR 1836 the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act was signed into law June 7, 2001. It was projected to reduce total surpluses by approximately $1.35 trillion over the 2001-2011 period. Its principal feature was a reduction spaced over the 2001 to 2006 period in the 4 highest tax brackets.
  • HR 2 the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act was signed into law May 28, 2003. It increased the exemption amount for the individual alternative minimum tax (AMT), decreased the tax rates for income from dividends and capital gains, modified tax law relating to bonus depreciation and expensing, and allowed certain 2003 corporate estimated tax payments to be shifted into 2004. Its principal effects would occur in its first 5 years from 2003-2008 and would cost $342.9 billion in this period

*Global warming: denial of manmade origin, followed by minimization of the effects of the manmade contribution, continued reliance on fossil and carbon based fuels, little movement on CAFE standards and conservation, and political interference in scientific reports.

  • March 13, 2001, Bush rejects Kyoto Protocols (finished December 1997 but never ratified by the US Senate) and casts doubt on the causes of climate change.
  • June 11, 2001, in reference to a report by the National Academy of Sciences, Bush questions the extent of global warming, its impact, and the manmade contribution to it.

*FDA: drug testing; food safety: underfunding, cutback in inspections and inspection staff (a decrease of 12% between 2003 and 2006), reliance on self-policing, lack of inspection of imported foods, and inability to force recalls.

*Detention of families for immigration violations; large ICE raids which leave children of detainees unaccounted for; immigrant detentions for long periods in a hodgepodge of facilities without adequate medical care (resulting in deaths), suicide prevention, or legal representation.

On March 6, 2007, the US Immigration and Customs Service arrested 361 undocumented workers in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The raid was widely criticized because there had been little coordination with Social Services to see that children of those detained would be taken care of.

*Attempts to privatize Social Security dating all the way back to a stacked commission report of December 11, 2001; Andrew Biggs who favors privatization made deputy director of Social Security in a recess appointment after the Senate made it clear it would not take up his nomination because of his privatization views.

*Conviction of David Safavian for lying and obstruction June 20, 2006 re his dealings with Jack Abramoff. In the 1990s, Safavian was a business partner of Grover Norquist. In 2002, he was named Senior Advisor and Acting Deputy Chief of Staff at the GSA and in November 2003 was made head of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy at the OMB in the White House. On June 17, 2008, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a new trial for Savafian. On December 19, 2008, Safavian was again convicted of obstruction and making false statements.

*Decimation of the Labor Department presided over by Elaine Chao, married to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell; job safety, job creation, wage increases, unions, and workers’ rights have languished under her stewardship. Edwin Foulke who heads OSHA continues the Administration policy of trusting to self-regulation of industry, by industry, for industry.

*Bush vetoes a stem cell research bill July 19, 2006 (Bush’s first veto). Bush vetoes a second stem cell research bill June 20, 2007 (Bush’s third veto).

*Attack on Plan B contraception: staffing Women’s Health positions with religious conservatives:

Dr. Eric Keroack at Health and Human Services who thought birth control demeaning to women and Dr. David Hager at FDA who tried to keep Plan B prescription only. His wife contended in divorce proceedings that he had repeatedly sod*mized her without her consent. On October 15, 2007, Bush appointed Susan Orr as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Population Affairs (Keroack’s position). Orr who currently heads child welfare programs at HHS is a virulent opponent of birth control considering it part of a "culture of death". This is another example of an upside down appointment: choosing someone whose positions are the very antithesis of their job’s mission.

*False military reporting:

Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch. Pat Tillman was an NFL player who post-911 joined the Army and was killed in Afghanistan April 22, 2004. He was immediately mythologized John Wayne-style by the military. On May 28, 2004, it came out that he died in a friendly fire incident. Details of Tillman’s death and the cover-up surrounding it continue to dribble out. On July 13, 2007, the Bush White House invoked Executive privilege on its communications with the Pentagon concerning the story pursuant to requests from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. It is likely that Bush knew within a week of Tillman’s death that the initial accounts of it were false.

You see?  These are the same nonsense issues that the neoconservatives have been pushing for decades!   Oh yeah!! ----The Housing Bubble and the subsequent collapse!!

FINALLY --- BUSH is accused by the UN of war crimes!! Lol He would be arrested if he went to the UN! Lol---- Now the same t crap and garbage that they are doing to President Obama; they have been doing these same tactic for decades!! SO President Obama is the worst president huh? By what comparisome??! lol

Very comprehensive & spot on assessments, darling! The fact is that many of the battleground states ARE seeing progress. Governors want to take credit but I think President Obama's policies deserve much credit. So GOP Governors are in a tough spot if they care about getting Romney elected. Even after Romney asked Scott to tone it down, Scott kept up the bragging so Romney's pressure is not working. That's good news for Team Obama!
