Be Afraid....Be Very Afraid
So, today I read this....<On Fox News Sunday this morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said that President Bush is more likely to attack Iran if he believes Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is going to be elected> It seems that Kristol thinks that if Bush believes McCain will win, he'll leave it to him to "bomb, bomb, bomb,.... bomb bomb Iran" (to quote McBush)
I'm trying to figure out the thought processes of the fear/war mongers in Washington. If we have the nerve to elect a President that will negotiate in an attempt to avoid war, then Bush will pose a "pre-emptive" strike. (Pre-empting Obama taking office) If McCain is elected, Bush will feel confident in McCain's determination to start another war, so he will let McCain do the honors. Either way, we should be afraid....be very afraid. Do I understand this correctly? What a bunch of bullys!
A good while back, I expressed my fears of another terrorist attack, or near attack, close to election time, to amp up the fear factor. Most disagreed with me. IF there is any truth to what Kristol is saying, it seems I was wrong....it could be far worse.
I'm counting on the great minds of RFO to help me make some sense out of all of this. Is this a real possibility? Where would the troops come from? What would Iran do in retaliation? How will the rest of the world react to such arrogance? How can anyone doubt that McCain would just be an extension of the Bush adminsitration? It seems to me that the American people are being threatened. But this sets America up for a lose/lose proposition....it's war either way. Would Bush really do such a thing? Will Congress allow it, or will Bush care what Congress says? Will the American people be wise and strong enough to not allow themselves to be manipulated this way?
(The "Be Afraid" comments were tongue in cheek, btw, along with biting said tongue in rage! I refuse to ever allow fear tactics to control me, or my vote, again!)
