I Can't Believe They Said THAT!!
This is so outrageous I don't know where to begin. Bush acts like he wanted the GI Bill expansion all along, and McCain tries to take credit for it. Bush said, (for those of you who missed it): < I want to thank members who worked hard for the GI Bill expansion — especially Senators Webb and Warner, Graham, Burr, and McCain. This bill shows the American people that even in an election year, Republicans and Democrats can come together to stand behind our troops and their families.> Great short article here.
Excuse me? Bush had been threatening to veto the bill, and McCain fought hard against it, but didn't bother to show up to vote, as has become his habit. Graham and Barr also fought it, and voted against it!
Of course, McCain is attempting to take some credit for the bill by saying: <“I’m happy to tell you that we probably agreed to an increase in educational benefits for our veterans that not only gives them increase in their educational benefits, but if they stay in for a certain period of time than they can transfer those educational benefits to their spouses and or children. That’s a very important aspect I think of incentivizing people of staying in the military.”>
So, McCain was opposed to and fought against the bill for months, and now he has the nerve to say "we", as if he played a role in the good that will come from this? WE? Does McCain have a mouse in his pocket? (A rat, maybe.) Another great short article.
There needs to be a huge public outcry over this! Even in a political season, it seems that people would have better sense and judgement than to outright LIE about something that is so much a part of public record. Once again, Bush and McCain are one and the same. Send our troops into battle, fight to deny them their benefits, then take the credit when wiser heads prevail. I am so sick of our government treating us like we are all simpering idiots!!! They seem to believe that if they both say it is so, then we will believe it. Not this girl! Not this time, not this year!
