"Obama campaign seized on the comments by Karl Rove"
"The Obama campaign seized on the comments (by Karl Rove), which it felt validated growing criticism that McCain’s operation had turned increasingly negative."
I am not a campaign expert but I cringe when I hear Obama or his campaign taking precious news cycle time criticizing Karl Rove or "Karl Rove politics." That may have been a hot issue for the democratic primaries, where the true believers revile Rove.
But as a Republican from a small town in Western NY pop 5000, 90+% white, mix of blue and white collar, heavily Republican -- presumably the kind of community Obama has to target -- I assure you NO BODY CARES ABOUT KARL ROVE. Yes, people know who he is and that he is a tough, maybe too tough, customer, but NO REPUBLICAN OR INDEPENDENT HERE IS GOING TO CHANGE THEIR VOTE BECAUSE OF KARL ROVE.
The economy, national security, and a better effort to connect directly to voters and their needs (emotional and practical) are what voters here respond to. Karl Rove doesn' t fit into any of that.
