Wow. Joe looks really good

By RNinBama - Posted on 02 October 2008

Anyone else watching and impressed how well both candidates are holding up? But Joe is clearly owning this debate. My opinion.

I think Joe has done better, but expectations were set so low for Palin it will be interesting to see what the undecided voters think.

I agree.  If we had normal expectations for Palin we could say that Biden won.  Unfortunately, we didn't expect anything from her.

I think that Biden has done better overall, but Palin has done far better than expected.

I'm disappointed that there haven't really been many humorous moments, but I'm pretty happy that both have done so well.

I think that Biden pwnd McCain with his deconstruction of the maverick myth though.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, & wiser people so full of doubts.
-- Bertrand Russel

About the "maverick myth" I was hoping he would bring up the fact that he was overwhelming in favor of bush on alot of policies.

I think he definetely drove home the point that hey if you don't like how the last 8 years turned out you're only going to get more of the same b/c mccain's policies are not much different from bush.

I'm glad Biden did two things, and both near the end (more effective, you know) - he deconstructed the 'maverick myth', and he talked about his hardship as a single parent after his wife and daughter were killed. His command of the issues were apparent. NBC, however, is fawning all over Palin. I would expect any poll they do after that to reflect Failin winning the debate.

Watching CNN, I noticed that overall Sen.Biden's answers on most issues were rated consistently higher among ohio undecided WOMEN than MEN.

Anyone else notice that as well?

If so, I wonder if reflects the general consensus in the swing states and if it will further increase Obama's support among undecided female voters....

And HE was the true natural, not this latest avatar of Palin.

I love this David Axlerod quote:

"I think it's always nice to get a wink, but it's also nice to get a paycheck, and that's what most people are concerned about."

According to a Nielsen focus group of undecided voters in Las Vegas, one of Joe Biden's best moments of the debate -- when he talked about ending the war in Iraq -- was also one of Sarah Palin's worst, when she accused Biden of waving "the white flag of surrender" in Iraq.

Watch as the dial meter soars for Biden, and plunges for Palin

Obama/Biden 2008

I saw something similar @ cnn with a panel of Ohio indy / undecided voters, with a male / female split.

every single time Palin would shoot an attack obviously planned ahead, the ratings would sink immediately among women, who I think saw clearly that she was not sincere.

body language doesn't lie and Biden was the true "natural" tonight.

Videos: Two great highlights by Biden. My favorites

How Different is John McCain's Policy

John McCain: Maverick He Is Not

Obama/Biden 2008

Joe Biden delivered one of the most memorable debate performances. He came armed with facts and passion, and relentlessly assailed Bush and McCain's policies.

The finish was the highlight. His choke up when reminicing about his first wife and daughter was genuine (no doubt the McCain camp will claim it is theatrics). He followed that with the Maverick tear down and his closing argument. It is sure to leave lasting impression among voters.

I think Biden did a great job!

He did seem more restrained than he usually does, but I'm sure that was to prevent anyone from screaming that he is "sexist," "disrespectful to women," "condescending." etc.... you get the picture.   Which, for the record, I find ridiculous...and I am a woman!  If she want to be treated as an equal...then treat her as an equal, not as a delicate flower that you have to handle with the greatest of care.  At a minimum, I find it insulting and in it's own way - degrading.  But that's an entirely different post :-)

Back to Joe Biden!!  The line he had to walk and the balance he had to find would have been difficult for anyone.  Kind of like making someone walk a tight rope.  However, I feel he really did a GREAT job!  He tugged at my heart strings when he talked about taking care of his children alone and not being sure if they would even make it.  That was a powerful moment.
