Making History Again?

By nshaddock - Posted on 11 February 2008

I am sure this has been mentioned before...but the surge of dissatisfied voters, who have lost hope that their party's candidates can make a change in the direction that America is heading, reminds me of Ronald Reagan. I am one of those who believes Reagan was one of the best modern presidents in America and I recall the overwhelming amount of Democrats who voted for him, because they lost hope in  their own party's candidates and felt need need to cross over the Republican line to vote for a better, higher purpose. Obama's honesty, integrity and ability to unite Americans will create the same type of movement, which is already happening! The idea of McCain or Huckabee (or Romney, up until last week) as the next Republican nominee makes me ill and I can't, in good conciousness, vote for them!  I know how inportant my vote, any vote can be and I won't waste it by, NOT VOTING, because I don't like the party's choices. I read Obama's book, "Dream's of my Father" and I knew then that this man WILL BE one of America's BEST Presidents. He will change American politics, nationally and internationally, and he will change the dynamics of how our country is run. This is one ride I eagerly await!

There are a lot of similarities, shaddock.

If you think about when Reagan came about, American optimism was at a new low. We were still in the shadow of the American military's first defeat abroad. Interest rates were skyrocketing, inflation was rampant, there was concern the US could no longer remain a superpower competitive against the Soviets.

Reagan came in and renewed our hope in what America is and what it can be. That our best days were not behind us. That America still represents the best hope for mankind.

And now, in the shadow of terrorism, a messy war, and a declining economy, we again have those fears that maybe America isn't what it used to be. And yet Obama, like Reagan did, still believes in who we are and what we can do together. He can't do it alone, but he wants us all to work together to become a hopeful, prosperous nation once again.

I couldn't agree more with both of you. It is an incredible ride. I wish I could have become open sooner than I had, because I would have been able to spend so much one on one time, face to face with Senator Obama. When  I see now the arena's he is filling and remembering we didn't fill up the middle school gym at Roosevelt in Mason City, I was still on my (I'm a Republican) bandwagon. But, through listening (skeptical, OH so skeptical) until he started to say HONESTLY what he really believes and WHY...and I could relate with the things that I try to do (charities, blood drives, etc..people are IMPOSSIBLE to coordinate, God bless em!) I understood, he "got it" what had to be done.

I WANT THOSE MONTHS BACK when I could have hung with him over a beer and conversation, but now I am so glad he has transended over the country and will do what needs to be done! I am so willing now to help in any way I can, and SO GLAD I TOOK THAT STAND THAT DAY FOR HIM WHEN IT DID MATTER IN IOWA! I'll never forget how scared and proud I was all at the same time!!!!

It's an amazing time, and I AM JAZZED!!!!
