Why, Is this a big deal or not??Just wondering

Ok, I was wondering if any here thought this was not a big deal. To me this should have been the first one he attended. Maybe he did and I got a bad source but I can't find any info that he did attend, If you find it I stand corrected then. Perhaps he got caught in the hoopla of celebrity status and wanted to perform for them. Nothing more important in this country than to look up to celebrities, I mean afterall they are what makes the world go round and provides so much for our country and are the reason this country is what it is , right??  I don't know, not trolling here but this is a bother and perhaps you can clear the air for me.

I gotta be honest.  There is a lot of stuff in the world that I am interested in, and this is not one of them.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee hosted 10 official balls - Obama went to every one of them. Which, incidently, is more than Bush attended at both of his inaugurations. Biden attended the American Legion ball in his place, and the AL issued a statement saying that while Obama was invited, the logistics of security made it understandable that Obama did not attend and that they did not feel snubbed. It's just another thing for the wingnuts to get their panties in a wad over.
"he went to every one"  so he was here?? but then he wasn't. Why was this less secure than any of the others. These men deserve that that. Perhaps for these reasons are part of the reason military vote always goes republican. I know this is a big to do about nothing, but he wants to meet people, go to resturauants, shake hands be a celebrity. I want to see him do it not for the lights and glamour but because every other president in the past 60 years has. And maybe ther media has made it such that now he has no choice after raising this to celeb status.

Obama had a lot of balls, but he doesn't have them all.

I said he went to all 10 "official balls" set up by the Presidential Inauguration Committee. No doubt there were many other "unofficial" balls in DC that night in addition to the AL ball. You'd have to ask the AL about the security - I'm just saying what their press release stated.

And remember, Obama got the lion's share of campaign donations from the military, and at least 44% of their vote, maybe more. Neither party owns the military vote, and every vet and soldier I know voted for Obama. Let it rest, as you said a big to do about nothing.

Do you have an official vote count of the military vote. I have been unable to find one. I believe ReaganFan said to make sure there was .gov and no .org at the end. I would appreciate seeing it.

Where was that cartoon that had the wife in the background saying, "Oh, for crying out loud... You're a Canadian!"

 The two goes together perfectly.

Blakey, I see your point, but want to clarify what Np said about he went to every one.   There were 10 official balls held by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, and the President attended every one of those balls.  Whether or not celebrities were in attendence at these balls is an a cart before the horse arguement.  The balls were scheduled first, and the celebrities got tickets to the scheduled balls.  President Obama didn't go to those balls to rub shoulders with the celebs, he went in with a quick wave, a short dance with the First Lady, said a few words and left to go to the next ball.  (There were many balls that were even more star studded, such as the HuffPo ball that he didn't attend.)

If you look at the list of balls, you will see they are varied enough to attempt to include various segments of society and regions of the country.  To honor the military,he attended the Commander in Chief Ball. I haven't read the AL article referred to by Np, so don't know anything about the security, etc.   But I do know from watching the festivities that if the ball were held any distance from the others, getting the presidential motorcade there would have been a logisitical and security nightmare.

From what I saw on tv, there were many military personnel the at Commander in Chief Ball, and Barack and Michelle each danced with a member of the military as well.

Blakey - read this, and please show it to all your insulted rightwing friends. Like the American Legion says, "there are much more important issues to dwell on."

"Our Ball wasn’t about the President; it was about the Medal of Honor recipients and the veterans and families who were there."

The Medal of Honor recipients were invited as special guests to the Commander in Chief's ball, and the Inaugural committee covered their hotel and transportation expenses. Hardly a snub of heros...

OK NP there is stuff like this everywhere, some to cover up and some to look bad. I don't know and thats why I asked for everyones opinion even though I knew the route of them. To me it seemed odd every president since this ball was formed with Eisenhower made it.  So whatever it is, it is. Everyone will have their view of it as they wish as we all do everything anyway. So right now I'm in the middle. Thinking Ok whatever.
Ummm... from what I understand factcheck.org is nonpartisan.   But you don't have to believe facts if they don't fit your agenda.
And Blakey, she is CORRECT on the non-partisan thing. I frequented that site among a few others like during the election. They did not swing either way favorably toward any candidate. When Obama & Mcain was misleading in any ad, they said it.  I was on that site at least 3 times a week, everytime some crap was being spewed on the news.

Caption: Medal of Honor recipients line up for a photo during the inaugural ball. That is... at the Commander in Chiefs Ball.

Some coverup eh Blakey?

From Stars and Stripes:

At inaugural ball, Obama pledges to serve troops President, first lady outshine entertainment stars at the military’s inaugural celebration.

I wonder why the ones at the Heroes Ball decided not to attend?? I wonder why the POTUS didn't go there as others before him. I mean just a quick hey guys thanks see ya. .tbc

Fact Check:

Official Balls

The Inaugural Balls listed below have been set up by the Presidential Inaugural Committee for the 2009 Inauguration of Barack Obama.

Biden Home States Inaugural Ball
Commander-in-Chief Ball
Eastern Inaugural Ball
Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball
Midwestern Inaugural Ball
Neighborhood Inaugural Ball
Obama Home States Inaugural Ball
Southern Inaugural Ball
Western Inaugural Ball
Youth Inaugural Ball

.......

There is also a list of "unofficial balls" and the funny thing here is the 'Salute to Heroes Ball' is not listed there either? Odd

01/20/2009 - President Barack Obama speaks during the Commander in Chief's Ball in downtown Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2009. More than 5,000 men and women in uniform are providing military ceremonial support to the presidential inauguration, a tradition dating back to George Washington's 1789 inauguration.

It's hosted by the American Legion, which, oddly, doesn't appear on the inaugural list at all. They're a veterans' affairs / PAC (??) that tends to lean conservative.

Absolutely they are one of the few groups that Bush could appear before safely. I canceled my membership in the American Legion five years ago because it was obvious they were in full support of Bush's failed policies and his unnecessary Iraq war.

I think we are back to "grasping at straws" here. I'm sure Hannity and O'Reilly are working very hard to make it a huge part of their shows. Rush is probably using the story to further justify why he wants Obama to fail. But will the average person give it a second thought? No.

Obama and Michelle have a proven respect and appreciation for the military and miliary families and Obama has a track record of supporting Veteran/Military issues (was even given a higher grade than McCain.) Looking at his win in Virginia alone, it appears Obama did get many military votes-perhaps thanks to Powell (some may have been afraid to admit it.) That's not to say there was not an anti-Obama tint from some military members, especially if they got their info from FOX. For example, I know an Iraq vet (loves FOX news) who told me he could not vote for Obama because he "never wore the uniform." I guess he was okay with Bush using his name/money/daddy to get out of serving. So these are the weak arguments we hear. This guy, unlike Rush, has assured me he now has full respect for Obama because he is our commander in chief.

I'm not saying Blakey represents what our party has come to, but this is an example of trying to attack Obama to hide the lack of ideas our party has. If we focused on some positive, forward thinking plans, we'd be looking at a brighter future for the party-and the nation. But this may be the only thing on the horizon for awhile...

WOW that is such a truthful statement and as for how long will they follow this path well until they shed this rotten group of leaders.

Hmm, Blake, I didn't realize you were so interested in Obama's balls........LOL

"Hmm,Blake,I didn't realize you were so interested in Obama's balls....LOL

Just hoping that he has some is all,lol

I searched the ball lists, and could not find this ball anywhere.

If you look around the web sites critical of Obama for not attending this unlisted ball, you will also find statements about the balls that he supposedly did attend (stated as fact), such as the BET ball, Africa something-or-other ball etc.

I may be off track, but I think I see a pattern here, represented by those who are making noise about this.  The bottom line to what they are saying....(Please pardon my bluntness)...

See?  We warned you about him.  He couldn't bother to attend a traditional ball for war heroes (attack Obama's patriotism here, ) but he could find the time to attend balls for the African American people. (insert racial innuendo here).

Blakey, I am definitely not saying that this is what you are saying or what you believe.  What I am saying is that some are making a huge negative noise in order to influence the unsuspecting (you possibly fit in that group) or those who want to find something, anything, to make President Obama less of a patriotic leader for us all.

Sorry naysayers....it doesn't work!  Take it to the FReeper forum where they will have a lot of fun with it!!

I get curious as to what evil the freepers are stirring in their saddistic pot of nonsense. So thank you Blakey for saving me the pain of visiting their site.
No I 'm not Suzi, I'll look up some on it. Thanks for doing so. Maybe it is alot to do about nothing, but coming across it and wondered why wouldn't he and I think when I posted the thread  I came across as not knowing and wanting to get all your thoughts.
If this is the worst thing they can say about Obama then the limbaugh crowd really is in trouble.
LOL
I'm getting the impression that this ball is one that only actual Legion members and chicken-hawks like the guys at Free Republic or WND would care about. It might be a small affair where a President shows off his support for the troops. I dunno.

This whole thing is the typical ways that their Rove tactic is designed to work. Throw something up against the wall and by the time it is proven to be without merit it will gain a life of it's own and carried forward by their devotees. Once out there it  can not be completely killed. It a very ugly and evil tactic but they do not care as long as it is accomplishes their rotten goals.

Yes, but with the new internet age whereby people can almost instantly fact-check/rebut, most people aren't falling for those disgusting tactics anymore and see right through them (only the true Rush disciples are gullible and they don't like Pres. Obama anyway.) The Rove way is out and change is in!

I have to agree Kelly, I must admit that years ago, I used to fall for things like that, it wasn't until my own gut told me to check it out before believing everything you read or  hear. I was factchecking so much this year, and I am happy that I now know there are sites our there that give you the facts w/ no spin. I wish more people would start realizing it.
I know-I admit I used to listen to Rush and even believe much of what he said. Global warming? Just a myth, right? Ugh-so glad I decided to use my brain and wake up. I know the mis-information can come from both sides so it's good to have neutral sources.

The Rove way is out and change is in!

My great hope is that it will be done in forever but good people like Blakely unknowingly help this become launched by posts such as his that started this thread.

"It might be a small affair where a President shows off his support for the troops." But, that's what the commander-in-chief ball is about and Barack spent the most time there than the other balls he attended. Damn, I wish these were called something else other than balls! I'm not comfortable talking about my president's balls like that :-D
Then we shall call them Spheres. LOL!!
LOL!
Ummm... (consulting internal thesaurus)... "Promenade", "Dance", "Party", "Shindig", "Steinhoist", "AA Meetings"...

Whoops. Needs updating.

Please firgive my childish ways but I couldn't resist. I'm working on my problem...

I won't embed it because of the low brow humor. ( :

No more bush! found myself laughing and saying ewww at the same time.

That was too funny.

Not too low brow for me!

I'm surprised that they let the last one slide, but then again, Quagmire's "Cross-C***try Tour" survived the censors.
