How to get booted from RedState.com with one quick comment.

By John Martin - Posted on 20 March 2009

If there’s anything that bothers me as much as Republican hypocrisy, it’s Democratic hypocrisy. That’s one of the reasons I read RedState.com every day. While I don’t share their brand of conservatism, I at least know they’re working to keep the other side honest.

I’m also interested in having the Republican Party get back on its feet.  I’d like to see the minds behind RedState and other ambitious Republican blogs help make our party relevant again.  Someday I hope they will, but it's looking like we have a very long way to go before any sort of honest self-reflection can take place.  This became even more apparent to me after my RedState account was canceled yesterday.

The comment I left (my first and only on their site) was critical and impassioned— the sort that we’ve gotten used to here at RepublicansforObama.org— but it was nothing personal, profanity-laden, racist, sexist, or particularly crude.  If anything, I hope it shows that I care deeply about the future of the Republican Party and that I want us to grow and come back even stronger.

Below is the crux of the post to which I was responding.  Mind you, this story was of particular interest to me because I do not have the highest opinion of Senator Dodd, especially at the moment, and I’ve been trying to find out exactly what role he had in ensuring AIG executives got their taxpayer-funded bonuses:

Who Carried Water for Chris Dodd?

After twenty-four hours of denials, Senator Chris Dodd is admitting that he added a provision to the stimulus package to protect the bonuses AIG intended to pay executives…

After I saw that the “source” that they linked to was none other than RedState.com, I did my own research to see what Dodd had actually said.  After finding out that Dodd’s admission was in fact still somewhere in the future, I posted this (please excuse the typos—  I was still on my first cup of coffee):

C'mon RedState... help us become the reality party.

mainlandj Thursday, March 19th at 9:21AM EDT

This is a perfect example of why you guys will never help win back the millions of Republicans who have left the Party.

1st– what’s with having the source of your information to be the exact same blog post in which you state your claim?

2nd– after I dug around (wasting my time to try to follow-up on whatever I was trying to “learn” on this site), I finally found a reference to what Chris Dodd has admitted to. Guess what? It’s not:

“Senator Chris Dodd is admitting that he added a provision to the stimulus package to protect the bonuses AIG intended to pay executives.”

It’s:

“Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., acknowledged that his staff agreed to dilute the executive pay provision that would have applied retroactively to recipients of federal aid. However, Dodd said he was not aware of any American International Group Inc. bonuses at the time the change was made.”

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/aig_bonus_congress

Criticize him for waffling for for trying to BS us, but when you try stretching the truth like this, you just lose credibility among those who’d like to believe in Republicans and the conservative movement again.

Moments later, I was informed that I was no longer welcome to criticize the efforts of RedState.com, and my account was terminated:

It's been two years, John Martin.

You’re a Democrat now.

Accept it.

Shoo.

To the extent that I can speak for the over 4 million Republicans (and 20% of self-proclaimed conservatives) who voted for President Obama, I’d like to say that the party has its work cut out for it if the hard right continues to try to stifle discussion and dissent within our ranks.  In a perfect world, I wouldn't be voting for Obama in 2012, but at this point, I just don’t see how the Republican Party is going to be able to produce a better candidate by then.

As Chairman Steele and many other Republican mavericks have been finding out, today’s GOP doesn’t seem interested in those who question whether the party is on the right track.  If people like me— people who WANT to be in the party, and who WANT the GOP to be able to attract new members— are told in no uncertain terms to keep our thoughts to ourselves, we have a long, losing road ahead.

John, I'm sorry that this happened to you.

I have to ask if you're surprised, though.  RedState is notorious for being full of "Reactionary" individuals.  They are well known for eliminating any type of criticism no matter how minor.  Dissenting opinion is not allowed in any form.

You'd probably have had better success at Free Republic.  Not that I'm recommending Freeperville.

Dissenting opinion is not allowed in any form.

Isn't that the new GOP slogan? Sorry this happened, John, but it is their loss. If they put no value on facts, they have no credibility.

Reminds me of the movie A Few Good Men...

John:  "I want the truth!"

RedState:  "You can't handle the truth!"

There's zero reason to be sorry.  In terms of what I learned from this, it's been worth it.  It'll give me the chance to explore some other conservative sites I've been neglecting.

Here's the fun part....the "You're a Democrat Now" statement is a clickable link right back here to RFO. ;-)  It's their way of saying..."We know who you are...be afraid, be very afraid". lol

moelane followed with another post: "not that I would recommend clicking that link to watch the twisting and flailing of a bunch of people who are slowly and reluctantly coming to the realization that they were lied to down the line; yet…"

OK everyone...fess up...who is twisting and flailing? ;-)

"moelane followed with another post: "not that I would recommend clicking that link to watch the twisting and flailing of a bunch of people who are slowly and reluctantly coming to the realization that they were lied to down the line; yet…"

Yeah, I didn't get that line.  I haven't seen any of us seem disillusioned yet.  And I haven't seen a post from anyone who regrets his or her vote.

I can only think of one, but then again he also still thought McCain would have been worse. Perot_Obama. Also, he hasn't been around except once since the election....

Double post....

Although there have been a few posts by Tom and NoMc, and probably others (myself included) that have at times expressed disagreement with certain decisions, they certainly haven't said anything to indicate they regret their vote.  And if you stop to think about it, occasional disagreement just proves that we are thinking, informed voters and not KoolAid drinkers.  So take that, RedState!!

Suzi, I think that what you said is fairly obvious, so much so that I don't think you even had to state it( or RED state it? lol? *crickets*). We've all expressed disaproval with the left and the right and some decisions or ideas (vet private insurance) of Obama. We are realistic in the fact that we leave critism until facts from a credible source are there and we know it's hard to blame much on Obama yet when his policies won't really show their true effects for at least another half a year to two years. We also have respectful disagreements, common sense, and consideration for opposing views(or should I say rational opposing views).

Free plug?

That's one way to look at it...lol  During the election, that kind of free plug at hard right sites brought out the trolls in big numbers.  It looks like they have more or less given up on us now...thank goodness.
Trolls are good, they give us mild entertainmnet and blakey a possible new friend. I mean he's still the sheriff but he's also secretly recruiting during interrogation. ( :

And isn't their link to an RFO post in which I'm critical of the administration?  That just shows that we're not beyond criticizing Obama if and when we think it's appropriate.

It's also pretty funny that they figured out so quickly where I was from.  They don't have anything else to occupy their time?

There's a mindset that autocrats love: One that dares not question authority or even established traditions and principles. Hope posted a FactCheck article yesterday that indicated that we generally don't give a viewpoint the time of day if it came from the "enemy". The Republican base has a massive problem, then, reconciling loyalty with self-examination, and with this locked mindset that they are the heroes and anyone else are the goats. All it takes to completely dominate this faction is a charismatic leader who repeatedly tells them they are victims of everyone else. I think we all know who that leader is, and it isn't Michael Steele.

I applaud the efforts of some Republicans to reason with the right-wing, but I feel at the moment that it is like giving blind and stubborn men directions. There has to come a point where they are rejected by their communities, and even then the more stubborn among them will continue as conspiracy theorists.

Samuel Clemens said "Dissent is the hallmark of democracy".  It's clear one of the problems with the current republican party is that it is un-democratic in many many ways.

 john,

I WOULD DIGG IT..

post on other gop sites ....

Far right group shoots messenger for reporting false information.

DUGG
I hate trolls.

You do, now.  Then, do you hate yourself?  If so, you really should speak with a licensed mental health practicioner.  I wouldn't want you to harm yourself.

;-))

Id ban you too John.  You ARE a democrat.   You are a classic troll.  No one in their right mind wants a troll on their forum.  You are a classic democrat.  You are as much a liberal democrat as Nancy Pelosi.  You hate republicans, the venom you have against them flows out from you like water.  You defend liberal socialism, and take issue against conservatism.  You are a democrat.  If you just admit it, I'm sure you wouldn't get banned.  You can keep denying you are composed of protons, neutrons and electrons.  You can scream it and yell at the top of your lungs  "I'm NOT made of atoms, I"M NOT!" but the truth remains.  No amount of your subjective denials of what you really are (a liberal pelosi-loving democrat) will change the truth.  That is why you were banned.  And I agree with the ban wholeheartedly.

ROFLMAO.....

< And I agree with the ban wholeheartedly. >

Of course you do...it's the radical right way of doing business.

Yep!!  I wonder if marSHRILL would agree so wholeheartedly if we banned him/her, or if he would go to all of the conservative websites saying how biased we are.  LOL
If only we could aspire to the level of class and understanding of places such as Redstate?? We can dream, Suzi, we can dream...
LOL...are you intent on giving me another night of bad dreams?  I take my chances with the pythons, thank you. ;-)

"I wonder if marSHRILL would agree so wholeheartedly if we banned him/her, or if he would go to all of the conservative websites saying how biased we are."

Don't give him any ideas, I think that has already been done back in the glory days of 2008  LOL!

ROFL....I know exactly what you mean.  ;-)

Maybe someone that is credible there will post a mild defense.  hmmmmmm

Here's my comment that I posted at Redstate:

Mainlandj does make a good point in that we as conservatives need to start doing something to “help win back the millions of Republicans who have left the Party.” We can’t win national elections without a concentrated effort made to win these voters back.

While I certainly disagree with those Republicans who for whatever reason supported the Democrats in 2008, the reality is that millions did. We should make sure this never happens again.

Excellent, Brandon!!!  You didn't abandon your principles, while letting it be known that change is desperately needed within the party if it is to survive.  Kudos!

I'll be interested in seeing what replies you get.

Hmmmmmmmmm personally, to me it almost seems worth taking that chance.

"I SO voted for Barack Obama!  10/25/08"

That wouldn't bother me either, but we don't ban anyone unless they voiolat TOS in some way.  We allow any and all dissenting opinions as long as the follow the rules.

"No one in their right mind wants a troll on their forum."

Ha ha.  This is the funniest part of marshill's post.  Hey, marshill, you oughta know, huh?

What's Blakey then?

Blakey is a Republican supporter, who is the funniest, nicest troll on any website.  He is never vicious or rude, even though he believes differently than most of us here.  He's our 2008 Troll of the Year, and a much loved part of our community.  Crazy, huh?

I was asking in more of a response to what Marshill said. I mean if we have no trolls than what's Blakey? ( :

Whoops!  I can be such a dufus at times....lol
We'd be really really bored and have to engage in our own self talk self-loathing.
Gee thanks, you make it dang hard to be mean anymore, but I'm trying... No harm intended though.
Like I said, "I feel at the moment that it is like giving blind and stubborn men directions." QED.

"Better dead than red." :-D

"For those who plan with audacity and execute with vigor,
progress is the magnificent by product."

LOL...somewhere on that site I read that the Erick guy who banned John appeared on Sean Hannity's TV show, and urged everyone to keep watching Hannity so he (hannity) could keep his ratings up and continue his work.

So yea...better dead than red...;-)

There may be competition between Beck and Hannity. Is Beck a desperado!? Did Beck cry like a baby to increase his ratings? Who knows.

In watching the noise over at Red State this saying is very appropriate: Intelligence is like a river, the deeper it is the less noise it makes.

Thanks, I pop in from time-to-time. I'm keeping a low profile just in case someone comes looking for my multi-trillion dollar bonus.  :)

Golfie!!!!  Your saying is very apt...and the noise over there is difficult on the best of days.  I can't stomach digging through it for very long.

I dont care if I get banned here, in fact, I welcome it.  When a left-wing site bans me, I expect it to be honest.  What makes this site particularly aggregious is that it claims to be "republican" when in reality it is not.  Like the naked King who wore no clothes, people here expect others to think they are republicans.  The King at RFO is naked, and everyone except RFO members can see it.  The good news is that this site fools no one.

Actually, I think RFO members see it but they just speak otherwise.  Its not simply that the members of RFO are "For Obama"  you are also "for Reid"  "for Frank"  "for Dodd"  "for Pelosi"  ....if you aren't thoroughly democrats, its only because the democrat party is too far right for you.

How much money did you get from Soros John?  Are you and Kos good friends?  Same philosophy, its just that the Daily Kos is a much better site than this simply because its honest.  At least the Daily Kos comes right out and states what it is.  You have a shell that calls itself "republicans" when beneath the shell is a sweeping embrace of the democrat platform and all of its members.

when this site bans me, I will rejoice.  I enjoy getting banned by left-wing Pelosi-loving liberals.  Its kind of a fun thing for me.  Cmon, you know you want to.   Suzi talks about it all the time.  In fact, every time Suzi makes a post about me it has something to do with banning me.  I'm just waiting for it to be reality...then I'll pop a cold one and smile and celebrate.

Sorry, dude. It's that we've got a troll shortage going on lately.

We need you to keep us up to date on the latest news from the Hannitysphere. You watch Fox and listen to Limbaugh so we don't have to!

Howling in the wilderness.

Negativity, name-calling and bigotry didn't win this time, did it?

Evidently the intolerant groups don't plan on Republicans winning any more elections----they are content to howl and spit epithets at those who do.

Retreating into a bubble of irrelevancy doesn't build a winning formula.

I generally refrain from name calling, but Marshill, what an ignorant fool you are....it's actually very sad.  As someone who has voted Republican since Nixon, I find your judgement of who is and who isn't a Republican laughable and pitiful, and narrow minded.

Let me ask you this...If you are from BC, what do you care about this?  If you aren't from BC, then you lied on registration.
