Miss America!!

By BlakeyV - Posted on 22 April 2009

One major correction, then I will address the issue....It was the Miss USA pageant, not Miss America.  There is a huge difference, and the Miss USA title isn't nearly as respected (as beauty pageants go. ;-)

With that said, I've been waiting for someone to post this, and in many ways, I agree with the article you linked.  Although I am a strong supporter of gay rights, this is a beauty pageant contestant, for heaven's sake, she isn't running for a public office.  She is as entitled to her opinion as much as is any other American, whether I agree with her or not.

On the other hand, Perez Hilton was very unprofessional (as if he is ever any other way) in his obvious disgust for her answer.  Since then, he has called her a b*tch and the c-word.  Perez is a joke, starting with his idiotic name, and his behavior in this case, as in many other actions, does nothing but harm to a just cause.  The gay community does not need people like this speaking for them, IMO.

You know, if you ask Perez Hilton to be a judge, you shouldn't be surprised with anything.  Duh.

And the Miss USA pageant people (Donald Trump?) have got to be loving this.  Normally no one talks about these pageants unless someone gives a dumb answer (Miss South Carolina one year?) or falls, so they are probably glad to be getting some press.

And while we're at it, let's get rid of beauty pageants altogether.  They are demeaning in the best of cases.

Im in total agreement with Suzi. About Perez Hilton (as if the name doesnt tell you what we are dealing with) and the pageants.

Miss USA is not as respected as Miss America! Thats why Perez Hilton and his stupidity will not be seen at Miss America as a judge.

But hey, I bet the Miss USA people are happy. They are getting press!

A whole lot of fuss about nothing. Now can someone tell me who the hell Perez Hilton is? Is he in the hotel family? And why is someone in the hotel business judging a beauty contest? Did they remove evening gowns or talent portions and replace them with hospitality portion or maid service  contests or something?

Perez Hilton is the gossip blogger to the stars, and desparately wants to be a part of that world..  He's a bit over the top,...From Wiki, (they are using his real name):  On his blog, Lavandeira is open about his homosexuality and about his desire to "out" those who he claims are closeted gay celebrities.

So this explains, in his jumbled mind, his question, and his reason for giver Miss CA a zero for her answer, and trashing her all over the place.

oh. well still makes no sense. maybe i'm just missing something, but why is a gay man judging a miss usa contest anyway? and who cares what he thinks?

They usually have women judges too.  A gay man can have just as good of an eye for beauty and talent as anyone else.  Why shouldn't he?  THIS particular gay man is a nutjob, and people care because he is trashing this poor girl all over the place.

Actually, a gay man who was there joked that she should have come up with a better answer just because since it was a beauty pageant probably at least 25% of the audience was made up of gay men.  Apparently, many gay men enjoy beauty pageants.  I do know that a number of the consultants and the trainers who teach the contestants how to walk, etc., are gay men.  That's why I'm not surprised that a gay man was judging.

But since I was familiar with Perez Hilton's web site, I was surprised that he was a judge.  http://www.perezhilton.com/

First, let me get this out of the way: I am NOT a fan of beauty pageants.

Now that that's said, Perez Hilton as a judge?  Really?  If a beauty pageant wants to regain "credibility" in this day and time, why on earth would it have him as a judge anyway? His behavior after-the-fact has been reprehensible.

While I didn't agree with the contestant, she certainly has the right to her opinion, and she didn't say anything disrepectful towards anyone.

I thought the purpose of the interview question was to see if an answer could be formulated thoughtfully and address the question.

I was quite surprised that this was even asked.  How sad for all involved.

I agree Mary.  I also agree with Kim's assessment of Perez.   Having him for a judge, with the ability to pose a question, was asking for controversy, as he doesn't have to ability to formulate an intelligent and thoughtful question.

But, controversy and headlines seem to have become the norm for anything Donald Trump is involved in........

I thought the purpose of the interview question was to see if an answer could be formulated thoughtfully and address the question.

Well, she failed on that point. Opposite marriage? I detest these spectacles. For most of these contestants, the "elevator does not always go to the top floor." A friend of mine was in one and spent more money on dresses/make-up than the prize were even worth! One contestant was asked about volunteer work and went on a tangent about how she likes to give money to people who are in line in front of her in a grocery store if they don't have enough money for their bill. I turned to my husband and said "I want to make sure she is behind me in line!" I find these events hurt the progress women have made, to say the least. Having said that, Hilton was way out of line in his reponse and is hurting another great cause: gay rights.

Actually I do not have a problem with being anti gay marriage.  She is entitled to er opinion.

What I do have a problem with is the fact that destroyed the english language.

Opposite marriage??? what the hell is that???

I will not throw the first punch but I wil certainly throw the last.....President Barack Obama.

Beauty queens aren't known for deep intellectualism. ;-)  If you watched the whole thing, that was her "answer" to same sex...but she did go on to be more coherent about it.

The point here is that she is being publicly crucified by an idiot for her personal beliefs, and the media is hyping the "opposite" angle.  Not to mention that she probably lost the crown for her answer....thanks to Perez being pissed at her answer.

It is perez hilton who should be crucified by the press, and the public, for his behavior and antics.
I was wondering if she came up with "opposite marriage" on the spur of the moment.

Hiring Perez Hilton shows how clueless Donald Trump is....

Trump is one of those guys who thinks that there is no such thing as bad PR.

One lesson that Howard Stern never needed to teach us...

It's sad that we've reached a point where 'government service' is a dirty word... If we're the greatest country on earth, maybe we can have the greatest government.

She forgot: "... and world peace..." at the end...

Miss Teen USA 2007, Miss South Carolina:

Q: Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?

A: I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as in, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq and everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.

Miss USA, Miss California:

Q: Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage, do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not.

A: I think it's great Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what in my country, in my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody there, but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be, between a man and a woman.

Miss Alaska 1984 Runner Up:

Q:  Why isn't it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries; allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

A: That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the—it's got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

Speaking of Palin, Levi's family is going to be on Larry King tonight... That should be awkard...

It almost seems awkward that they are relevant enough to apppear on King at all.

Any idea as to what its about Steve?

It's about the war of words between them and the Palins...

LOL, not as awkward as when they were on the Tyra Banks show...it makes you wish genetic kits were freely available at the Piggly Wiggly.

Oh goodie,

I had to turn back to CNN.

WoW... I saw CNN with Levi's family. They got a real family feud going on ... like the Hatfield-McCoy

I feel sorry for both families. Don't they realize the damage they are doing to their families?

Domn it,,got my beauty pageants wrong. Oh well. Just some controversy and wondered your thoughts.   Can't say that I look at the name of it anyhow,,mind gets occupied.
I saw her and thought, 'this is how Sarah Palin got started.'
Thats what I thought and well uh,,,then ,,well,,uh,,umm,,nevermind
LOL...at least you're consistant, Blakey.  ;-)
