Great News: Journalist to be Freed in Iran
I have been really upset about the case of U.S. journalist Roxana Saberi who had recently been convicted in Iran of being a spy. I felt so helpless and did not have much hope for this case...so I was overjoyed to see this news. In following news of her hunger strike and interviews with her distraught father, I could only pray for her safe return. It looks like justice won this time.
*** Breaking news: Lawyers for jailed U.S. journalist Roxana Saberi "say she will be freed Monday after an Iranian appeals court suspended her prison term and she can leave the country immediately." Saberi had been sentenced "to eight years in prison. An appeals court heard her case on Sunday."
From the NY Post article:
The United States, several European countries and human rights groups had been advocating for Saberi's release.
"They (Iranian officials) surely must have felt the weight of international pressure," U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota told the AP after hearing she would be released.
