GOP blows off meeting with President Obama
Okay, I must admit I am having a very bad "political narrative" moment. I once again sit here hoping today might be the day the Democrats finally come out swinging, for once dominant the media, passionately point out the fools, liars and cowards we know the GOP members to be, clearly defend their own agenda, etc. And I've got nothing. So I turn to my hope that the media will do their jobs, actually look up facts to dispute what the GOP says, ask tough questions, provide a Democrat side by side with a Republican to rebut rididulous things. And I got nothing there, too.
And then this story slaps me in the face. I had to read this twice. The GOP-who complain the President does not consult them enough or involve them enough-must postpone the November 18th meeting the President has set up due to a "schedule conflict?" When did it become okay to blow off the President of the United States? I don't care how much you dislike him, if a President invites you to a meeting, you go! I am beyond impatience with such disrespect. What pressing matter does McConnell have that day? Organizing his underweat drawer? On Morning Joe, Scarborough started to apologize for being on the president about so few meetings with Republican leadership and said, "Wow-I guess it's not his fault if this is how the GOP leaders respond to an invitation." Then Willie (the annoying clean-cut boy who displays limited intelligence) said "Well, McConnell's office is saying Obama suggested the new Nov. 30 date." Well-duh-he probably did in response to the GOP suggestion of waiting until May, 2011! Nobody disputes or questions it. They just carry on like this is normal behavior for lawmakers to do to a sitting president. I just want to scream!!!! And the Politico story is probably correct that the GOP is cancelling because they are afraid the President will make fools of them again or call out their lies. But they are telling lies even about the last meeting-acting as if it was some big surprise and Obama "ambushed" them. And now Fox News is going with that lie...and thus my horrible mood gets worse. And we all know another big reason for the delayis to get less done in the lame duck. Dem's seem to think they must have this "bipartisan" meeting before tax cuts come up for a vote. I say-forget it, just do it now! Has the White House forgetten about the one-year foot-dragging and delay that led to zero votes for health care? How can they be this puppet in such a predictable scenario? They have very little time to get major things accomplished during the lame duck session and the GOP will delay again and again until January!
Does it show that I am more angry at the White House than the Republicans? They look weak to have to reschedule for a bunch of frightened, spoiled morons. Surely, they could offer to help the GOP reschedule the conflict. The White House is saying they want the meeting to remain for Nov. 18-saying they are still available-but not very forcefully. Imagine if Democrats cancelled on Bush? They'd be unpatriotic or painted as frightened rabbits. And the Democrats are once again no where to be seen to counter the lies being told on this matter by Republicans, so they miss an opportunity to get out of the gate first once again.
To make matters worse, I am seeing headlines like:
Republicans will block START treaty (need more time and too many other bills to block in the lame duck session)
Key Democrat signals willingness to remove DADT from defense bill to ensure GOP support
Baucus signals willingness to extend all tax cuts for 2-3 years for all (thus kicking the can down the road and not forcing a vote on middle class tax cuts alone.)
Not much hope for DREAM legislation (even though most Americans support it.)
Most Americans support extension of unemployment benefits (but no Dem out there to point this out and challenge the GOP when they are sure to block this.)
Sorry to vent. I think I will walk away from politics today and hope for a better day tomorrow, or the next day, or the next day. Sooo disappointed in so many people and groups, including our president (and you know that is a rare moment for me.) The White House needs a whole new Public Relations team and FAST! How can this be the same Barack Obama who ran a near-flawless campaign? Please let this imcompetence end!
By the time someone with facts responds, the lies will already be the truth:
Fox News has just had I think the third guest on recycling the discredited House GOP "Obama ambushed us" storyline. We'll have video shortly.
Mark Tapscott passes on then now-discredited 'Obama ambushed us in Baltimore' lie on MSNBC today. Alas, not rebutted by the host.
