9/11 Ten Years Later.

By Suzi LeVeaux - Posted on 11 September 2011

None of us will ever forget where we were, or what we were doing on September 11, 2001.  Neither will we forget the shock and horror of that day, and the days and months that followed.

Today, I am praying not only for the victims and their families of that horrid day, not only for the firefighters, police and military who answered the call to service, but also for each and every American. May we find again within ourselves the spirit that pervaded our country following that fateful day. We were not different races, regions or political parties. We were Americans, and we were united.

On this 10th anniversary of a great tragedy for all Americans, as a personal show of respect, I won't be making any politically negative, "us vs. them" comments today. I choose to remember that time when we weren't Republican, Democrat, or Independent, left ,right, or center...we were all just Americans. We were shocked, frightened, confused or angry, but we stood together, united. I hope and pray we can find our way back to being Americans first without another tragedy. Our nation is depending on us.

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.
As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.
As we lit candles of waiting and hope
We became one generation.
As the firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno
We became one gender.
As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.
As we whispered or shouted words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.
As we mourned together the great loss
We became one family.
As we cried tears of grief and loss
We became one soul.
As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heros
We become one people.

We are
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people

We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.
