Cain's sexual harassment charges: Could this be the end for him?

By Kelly Thomas - Posted on 31 October 2011

Cain is trying the Palin defense: it's that darn liberal media's fault! Not sure that will work, but not ready to count him out just yet. Funny how he actually thinks this is a liberal-sourced story. Are you kidding me? This has Karl Rove and "establishment Republicans" written all over it. They were getting pretty scared as he continued to advance. Liberals would be giddy if he were the nominee.

Well I don't know how much of an impact this issue will have on him but it could be fatal to him!! I guess the establishment were trying to find ways to destroy him!! Well he loves the national media lime light!! SURPRISE SURPRISE!! IT AINT so pretty after all!! LOL--- he should have expected the worst case scenario; sabotage is a part of this nasty business!!

Now I understand the creepy smile in that weird campaign commercial.

Ann Coulter doesn't get it either. Conservative pundit Ann Coulter weighed in on the Politico story regarding Herman Cain’s alleged “sexually suggestive” harassment of two women while at the National Restaurant Association, according to a tweet from Politico reporter Alex Burns. “It’s outrageous the way liberals treat a black conservative,” she said.
The AP reports Cain’s campaign said the Politico story “isn’t true and represents unfair attacks.” . Update: The Washington Examiner posted this statement from the Cain campaign: Inside the Beltway media attacks Cain Fearing the message of Herman Cain who is shaking up the political landscape in Washington, Inside the Beltway media have begun to launch unsubstantiated personal attacks on Cain. Dredging up thinly sourced allegations stemming from Mr. Cain’s tenure as the Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, political trade press are now casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts. Since Washington establishment critics haven’t had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain’s ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can. Sadly, we’ve seen this movie played out before - a prominent Conservative targeted by liberals simply because they disagree with his politics. Mr. Cain — and all Americans, deserve better.

Quite a hellish Halloween for Cain. And now there is this problem. What next?

From TPM:

Long before Herman Cain chief of staff Mark Block was appearing in the most mocked campaign ad of the presidential campaign so far, he and deputy chief of staff Linda Hansen started a Wisconsin corporation that the Journal Sentinel reports illegally helped the GOP presidential candidate get his campaign off the ground.

According to sources and documents obtained by the newspaper, Prosperity USA, founded by Block and Hansen, footed the bill “for tens of thousands of dollars in expenses for such items as iPads, chartered flights and travel to Iowa and Las Vegas - something that might breach federal tax and campaign law.” Daniel Bice reports:

It is not known if Cain’s election fund eventually paid back Prosperity USA, which now appears defunct. The candidate’s federal election filings make no mention of the debt, and the figures in the documents don’t match payments made by the candidate’s campaign.

In addition to picking up these expenses at least initially, Prosperity USA also paid as much as $100,000 to the Congress of Racial Equality, a conservative black organization, shortly before Cain was a featured speaker at the group’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. dinner in mid-January.

Records show that Prosperity USA’s largest asset was nearly $40,000 owed to the organization by “FOH” — Friends of Herman Cain — which the Journal Sentinel reports owed “nearly $15,000 for an ‘Atlanta invoice,’ about $17,000 for chartered flight service and $5,000 for travel and meetings in Iowa, Las Vegas, Houston, Dallas and Louisiana. The document says the Cain campaign had been billed $3,700 for iPads purchased on Jan. 4.’”

The Journal Sentinel said the records suggest that Prosperity USA “had been underwriting travel for Cain even before he announced his plans to run for president.”

“I just don’t see how they can justify this,” a national election expert told the Journal Sentinel. “It’s a total mess.”

I guess if they can blame the liberal media for trashing Cain's reputation then it can be disregarded as irrelavent since it came from the Liberals LOL  Also, what the H*** does his race have to do with Liberals attacking him?? aren't there white liberals??? he is fairground for scrutiny whether it's from the left or right by virtual of him being in the political arena!! ---Are they going to make his race an issue now and say that it's bad for minorities to question his politics??? Remember the GOP said that minorities are Monolithic since we voted for OBAMA!!!  but how convenient of them to try to play on the black guilt trip if minorities should question Cain's malarky!! LOL hahaha --- the games these people play smh!!

Yep-they are making this racial. I am amazed that conservatives are so quick to defend Cain when his denials sound less than firm and way to carefully worded. Maybe he is innocent but I'd love for someone like Rush to end up with egg on his face if real evidence comes out against his word. From TPM: Speaking on his radio show on Monday morning, conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh came to Herman Cain’s defense, calling sexual harassment charges against Cain a “hit job.” Limbaugh attacked the “main-stream media,” presumably referring to Politico’s scoop, as using the “ugliest racial stereotypes” to attack a black conservative.

Herman Cain is ...

Your fifteen minutes is up!

awww Misty you are hilarious like mom Suz LOL hahaha--- Well BIG BEAR  RUSH had to come out and defend helpless Cain because the media is attacking Cain because he is a Minority Conservative LOL---  LIKE REALLY???---Cain came out fighting and said that African Americans are brain washed because they listen to or voted for Obama!! So now he can't take what he dishes out which is malarkey LOL!! Okay it's alright for Cain to attack minority democrats but it's abominable for minorities to disregard his   999 plan and now the media has grabbed hold of his past immoral act LOL -- now the game is unfair LOL  here is the answer !! get out of the game if you are too fragile to deal with every form of attack just like Obama had to deal with and still deals with!!! YES CAIN  is TOAST!!! LOL

Let Herman, be Herman. And Herman is gonna stay Herman.

Politico needs to step up with details... or else.

The entertainment will be here as it gets worse!

Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, prompted by a caller named Natalie, called for the occupation of Politico on Monday.

“You’re saying Occupy Politico,” Ingraham responded to Natalie. “They’re occupying Wall Street, we need [an] occupypolitico.com. I got it.”

Ingraham went on to criticize the website for publishing the story, claiming that they are “destroying a good man’s reputation.”

I don't know...with the mindset of conservatives these days, he just might GAIN in popularity. That whole "mama grisly" thing that Palin started ("We protect our own" even when they are wrong or guilty.) His story is not adding up but do conservatives really care? Bascially his latest scoop is that he knew he was accused and that his organization paid off the woman, but he didn't know the details.

1. If someone accuses you of sexual harrassment, do you really just forget that? That's huge! An innocent man would fight tooth and nail and never approve a pay-out.

2. What kind of organization tells the CEO accused of SH but does not do a proper investigation, just pays the woman off? Assumed he is not guilty? Is this how companies deal with sexual harrassment? Yikes.

Well Kelly ---Cain has always been the far right's  "Special weapon" LOL ( he fires up the base like Palin did LOL)--- If they loose Cain this early, then they may loose the motivation of the base-- They can't stand to loose any more conservative candidates to attacks from the supposedly left??---- To eliminate Cain this early in the political process means or is perceived that the "Liberal media" is serving notice on the rest of the GOP candidates LOL--- Oh we can't have that happening nowLOL hahaha --- the far right is trying to save every bit of  scrap in their camp!! remember they are desperate!! LOL--- he may get a bump in his popularity but I really don't think it will be sustaining!! Cain is their sacred cow or sacrificial lamb for their REAL candidate!---- I honestly don't think the GOP body can stomach another minority President ( I am nonwhite if you didn't notice by now LOL hahaha), Obama was too much for them!!  Remember their mantra of taking back this Country LOL hahaha --- I don't know how far he will get in the political process but I assume as the race narrows then  we will see Cain being traded off like a pawn; he won't know what hit him when they do a mad attack against him and his nonsensical plans!! LOL hahaha----- but it remains to be seen!!

And it continues...

Herman Cain said in his speech today that the National Restaurant Association’s general counsel and the human resources department conducted an investigation into allegations about his conduct in the late-90s.

But the head of the association’s human resources department at the time said in an interview with POLITICO last week that she was unfamiliar with any complaints from female employees about Cain.

***

But Cain said flatly in his National Press Club speech today that Ose’s department today actually conducted the probe into his conduct.

“I recused myself and allowed my general counsel and my human resource officer to deal with the situation and it was concluded after a thorough investigation that it had no basis,” the former association CEO said.

Reached at her home today following Cain’s speech, Ose was told of what the GOP presidential hopeful had said about her and was asked about the contradiction.

“He did not say that,” she insisted.

Read the direct quote from Cain, Ose responded: “You and I have talked and I have nothing to say.”

She then hung up.

Cains accuser wants to talk. Her attorney says she wants to be released from agreement so she can tell her side of the story.

She lives in Maryland and now works for the federal government.

Her lawyer also pointed out Cain broke his side of the agreement by speaking out and slandering the victim, saying her claims were "baseless." I'm sure Cain will fight it, and not sure how much the victim can push it, but it will look really bad for Cain if he refuses to allow her to speak. Pass the popcorn!

Cain gets testy .. and canceled a schedule press conference

In Virginia today ... Cain misses applause in Northern Virginia speech

Whoops!!! they better GIVE  Cain his 15 minutes of Fame LOL hahaha--- He is unbelievable!!! If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen!!----- His inability to deal with the clammoring lime light is starting to show!! But his hunger for attention hasn't left LOL hahahaha!!

I'm reminded a little bit of Ross Perot back in 1992.  Some people might think it's a good idea to have business people, non-politicians run for office, but it doesn't seem to work for offices at the national level.  Without a background of dealing with the media in a political setting, they just can't seem to handle the relentless media coverage.

Cain is not Able to take questions and it's clear he doesn’t hire people who know what they’re doing.

A third woman who worked with Herman Cain at the National Restaurant Association has come forward to complain that Cain engaged in sexual harassment, according to the Associated Press.

OMG! It gets better.

The story offers few details, however: the woman in question says that Cain made sexually suggestive remarks and gestures, commented on her attractiveness, and invited her alone up to a corporate apartment.

Cain has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of future accusers since the initial Politico report on his sexual harassment complaint first surfaced on Sunday evening.

This is turning out to be a bad CainWreck... is going to get dirty and skeezy. Cover your ears kiddies. Some people shouldn't drink and Cain is one of them.

Not sure she had a formal complaint or if this is legit but this is from the AP article: The story offers few details, however: the woman in question says that Cain made sexually suggestive remarks and gestures, commented on her attractiveness, and invited her alone up to a corporate apartment. The behavior was “inappropriate, and it made me feel uncomfortable,” according to Cain’s former employee.

I agree with Condi on this one.

Condoleezza Rice criticizes Cain for linking race to sexual harassment case.

What a week... And it isn't over yet! Cain will be hilarious for the next 48 hours, Perry will be safe if the dosage on his meds have been worked out, and Romney will stick like a statue at 24 percent.

Ms. Cain is in talks to appear on “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” on Fox on Friday night.

Not to brag that "I told you so" long ago and Cain still had a shot, but things like this seem to only increase his fundraising & popularity among the wacky base. Sad and hilarious that we may look back at sexual harassment charges being the turning point that helps Cain soar to the finish line ahead of the pack. Good news for President Obama: Businessman Herman Cain is fighting allegations that he sexually harassed at least two women while at the National Restaurant Association (which he has denied), but for far, a new Rasmussen Poll still finds him at the top of the GOP Primary field. Cain gets 26 percent in their latest flash poll, conducted Wednesday November 2nd. Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney gets 23 percent while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at 14 percent. Former frontrunner Texas Gov. Rick Perry is down to eight points and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) only gets two. Many Republicans also doubt the allegations against Cain. From Rasmussen: Among Republican voters nationwide, 76% were able to correctly identify Cain as the candidate who was accused of sexual harassment in the 1990s. Just 13% of GOP Primary voters think it’s Very Likely that the charges against Cain are serious and true. Another 25% think it’s Somewhat Likely. Forty-eight percent (48%) consider it unlikely, but that includes only 13% who say that it is Not at All Likely.

To take that a step further, today from Rasmussen: Regardless of preference, 49% of GOP voters nationwide think Romney is most likely to win the nomination. Only 18% believe Cain is most likely to become the Republican nominee.

This is worth repeating:

... the GOP will never nominate a black man for president, despite what any polls or surveys might say. The powers that be in the GOP are still old white men who would rather die a thousand deaths.

If this was some part of coordinated effort pushed (at least in part) by Rahm Emmanuel or some other Democrat, then really, this is part of the genius of it.

Taking Herman Cain down isn't a big deal-- as Misty points out, the guy still had little shot at winning. But getting the most popular candidate all mixed up in a scandal he can't handle helps to expose how extreme the hard right is, especially when they circle their wagons around their favorite nut job.

I'm reading reports that the Perry campaign is the culprit.

Not at all surprised by this... I knew the GOP candidates would throw each other under the bus eventually.

I swear, the GOP group is beginning to make the Dems look "organized" for once in their lives.

Bingo, John. Well said and yes-great way to expose just how extreme the far-right has become. I'm not kidding when I say I don't know whether to laugh or cry...this is truly pathetic. And, on a side note, I think Cain has officially beat out Anthony Weiner in the game of "how to take a 1 day story and turn it into a month long adventure of twists and turns." Wow. Just wow.

Honestly, before he EVER BEGAN a race as a presidential candidate, he and his team should have had the game plan determined about how to address this.  Then he could have calmly and in a mature fashion said, "Well, I knew that this would be brought up at some point, and the case is that I said something that was taken as offensive though I honestly didn't mean it that way.  I was and am sincerely sorry and regret that it ever happened."  People will forgive a lot easier if you own up to an error in judgement on the front end rather than lie about it.

Central that is an excellent example that you presented regarding how Cain could have responded to the accusations. Unfortunately, he wibble wobbled all over himself LOL--- Honestly, I am less concerned about a decade old news about his inappropriate behavior but I am most concerned about his hunger for power when he has not  demonstrated in his past that he really wants to serve people. He seems to want to gain national attention, join the "BIG BOYS CLUB" all for name sake only. I do not see servitude written anywhere in his character. Obama has prominently demonstrated consistently that he wants to help and serve people. Cain does not have a humble spirit in his bone!! I don not see compassion written anywhere!!!---- He is willing to do anything to gain any level of power; that's the reason he is so popular with the far right is because they smell greed and coldness ( which is the General feel of the far right of the powers that be), I am sure there are some reasonable Republicans but the ones that dominate the media and screaming for removal of Government are the ones who see Cain as a sacred cow; Cain carries the same AURA that the extreme right carries.

I once heard of George W. Bush (where I heard this, I don't recall) that he liked all of the pomp and circumstance of being POTUS, but didn't care too much about actually governing.  I get the same nagging feeling about Herman Cain.  For me, there is a sense that he wants to be POTUS, not so much to "fix" the problems caused by a "socialist" president (please note the quotation marks.  I'm trying to be sarcastic!), but rather for the formal dinners with foreign leaders, the photo ops and of course, waving to adoring Americans.  He seems to have a rather large ego and will say and do anything to get elected.  In my eyes, he is George W. Bush, Part Deux.  Despite his current troubles, I still think he is charismatic enough to become POTUS.  Sure, WE won't vote for him, but there are others out there who will be impressed by his speaking ability and sense of humor and will vote for him if he becomes the GOP nominee.  I suppose it is possible that I am worrying over nothing, but I will not stop being nervous about the 2012 election until I see a check mark next to Obama's name at the close of Election Night.

I work with someone EXACTLY like this.

He desperately wants to be in management, but he's been overlooked for years and he's upset by that fact.

Yet, when people come to him with the difficult problems of actually being a manager he doesn't want to take them on.

Don't want that as the POTUS.

mmhiga ---I think you made an excellent point about the possibility of Cain's  "Charm" LOL-- he definitely has personality lol-- people will be  supporting him because of his ability to appeal to their  " he's a regular kinda guy with personality thing", as well as, he has far right ideologies.  I guess I won't breath easier until I see a close substantial possibility that  President Obama leads in the polls and then elected. It's going to be an intense ride for this election period!! Every American is going to have to be fully engaged and active into this election process!!--- The powers that be are at work in this election year!! I am sure we are going to see even more dirtier raw vicious media attacks against the president.

I think your worries will end when the general election debates start, no matter who the GOP nominee is. The fact is the GOP policies are old and stale and when people see how Romney's Ryan-like plan and Cain's 9-9-9 plan only benefit the very rich while wanting to dismantle programs like Medicare, Medicaid & SS, there won't be enough anti-voting laws to save the GOP from themselves. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but a likable personality will only go so far. Sure, it's enough for the tea party but 20% of the voters will not be enough. I think the media is trying to push a "this will be a close race" storyline just to ensure good ratings. The fact that Obama & Romney are tied in national polls is actually good news for President Obama. 9% unemployment, fragile economy, housing crisis...and he is still in the game. Pretty impressive really.

Kelly I am so glad you are optimistic! ---I am mostly optimistic about President Obama winning but I am hesitant about the viciousness of the race. I hope the people step up and vote these people out. Also, I think what has me somewhat unnerved is the demand for voter IDs and redistricting that could effect the outcome of the voting.  We can only hope that the Powers to be don't suppress the vote of the people; they have already decided that there  will not be as many machines available, the length of days will be shorter and the time will be diminished. Let's hope these variables won't work against President Obama.

 Another shoe about to drop...

A fourth woman to accuse Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain of sexual harassment will outline allegations against him at a news conference in New York on Monday, according to a statement by her lawyer, Gloria Allred.

The news conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EST

TMZ streaming it LIVE here:

http://www.tmz.com/2011/11/07/gloria-allred-herman-cain-accuser-livestream/

Her name is Sharon Bialek a registered Republican.

Herman Cain just fell off the clown car.

If you really want to be grossed out, go over to freerepublic and read all of those people's comments.  What a nasty group of people.  Bet every one of them would claim to be a Christian, too.

Wow. Not the narrative the far-right wanted. Republican woman who even saw Cain recently while at a Tea Party rally. Wow. And Rush had to be the first to degrade the woman saying her name is pronounced "Buy-A-Lick." How mature and it shows just how far backwards conservatives want to take women's progress. Sexist pig! Cain might finally be in trouble on this one. And another accuser says Bialek's story sounds familiar to her own.

If the allegations are correct, then it is indeed a sexual assault and not harassment. There will be more victims. I feel sorry for Mrs. Cain. She seems to be a very private person. I think it was selfish for Herman Cain to run for president with all these skeletons in his closet. I doubt these 4 are the only recipients of his interest.

A new Herman Cain bumper sticker is going around the internet.

WOW!!!!! So they NAB this sucker huh???--- I knew there was something cold and immoral about him!!  unbelievable!  anyway, I wonder what will his Koch brothers and Rush do for him now!!! I am sure Rush with his narcissistic self will denigrate the women and make it look like it was the women's fault!!! Cain show have taken the high road instead of resorting to minimizing the issues and playing absent minded with senility LOL--- I have  not seen any information on his wife; can someone provide me with info on her?? Thanks

Awesome bumper sticker! She confided in people when this happened and they have sworn affidavits. Yes, it's sexual assault and common to not report, just try to remove oneself from the situation. I also feel bad for his wife. She was all set to interview with Fox News last week then suddenly cancelled. Maybe she did not like what her gut and the facts were telling her. I would not be surprised if this is just hitting her now with a powerful reality punch.

Right after the press conference the Cain campaign sent an email to their list stating that this whole affair was the fault of an obsessed media that went looking for people to complain, found those who wouldn't speak out in public, etc., and that he wasn't going to go along with their rules.  That might satisfy his supporters but not the rest of the public.   http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/39401_Herman_Cain_Email-_The_Media_Are_Obsessed

There is and always has been,  a moderate sized undercurrent of integrity and financial responsibility challenged people within our population.    The Democratic Party and their captive media have, for the last couple of decades, tapped ever deeper into that questionable resource for darkening/warping/smearing brushes, with which to Photoshop the images of individuals they perceive as serious political threats and who have risen to the top for the moment.

Thus far they have used only women who were supposedly of legal age at the time of their never proven and always late allegations.   However, at the cubic rate of growth of the use of  this tactic on the left, we may look for the same shaky stories from the same sex and underage at the time,  genres also.   Especially so considering the current popularity of (experimental?) combinations of both in the media lately against other than political figures and as we witness the devastatingly lethal effects upon both the target and everyone around them.

There seems to be no good legal response to the tactic, since once the target is tried and found guilty in the news media, the usual court remedies are no longer viable, seeming only to create more grit for the media mill and in practice, requiring the victim to prove his innocence rather than the accuser to prove any guilt.

And the really good news for the Democratic operatives?   Whatever the final outcome, it will be well after the election in question.
